Who would’ve guessed that the same thing that creates snowflakes & runs cars ALSO makes radios work??? Science is amazing.
Lol. I kinda feel like your Dad when I go off into a winded scientific explanation.
Perfect explanation!!! I always wondered how that worked!
Don’t forget that you can also get a better understanding of how electronics work if you keep in mind the magic smoke theory.
Smoke is the thing that makes electrical circuits work; we know this to be true because every time one lets the smoke out of an electrical system, it stops working. This has been verified repeatedly through empirical testing by countless electrical engineers, hobbyists, DIY’ers, and cheapskates.
When, for example, the smoke escapes from an electrical component (i.e., say, a voltage regulator or a 741 Op Amp), it will be observed that the component stops working. The function of the wire harness is to carry the smoke from one device to another; when the wire harness “springs a leak”, it lets all the smoke out of the system. Once this happens, nothing works afterwards.
Theoretically, it may be possible to refill the electrical component with magic smoke, but it is considered to be impractical in a real world application, due to the fact that no one has been able to build a large enough hamster wheel.
Remind me never try to understand to you a scientific theory ! :)=)
(your father is a wise man, He saw that he was not understood and… he find a solution: the best has not to doubt it.
and “it’s magic”, it’s a beautiful explanation, no ?
My husband is getting a PhD in virtual reality development. A good portion of our conversations go like this from my end.
But you know, even after I learned all the equations and worked with the stuff for years and years I still marvel that it all works. What a marvelous universe we live in! And yes, it is still absolutely magic!
